History of Mad City Dog Training

Mad City Dog Training, LLC was established in October of 1997 to fill a need in the Madison area for a positive motivation teaching format. On July 1, 2001 we completed construction of our current facility, a 15,000 square foot training center located at 813 Post Road. Mad City Dog Training delivers a modern atmosphere with indoor climate controlled rooms. Our floors are fully matted with 54,000 pounds of 3/4" thick solid rubber flooring for the health and safety of the dogs.

The Mad City Dog Training facility provides three separate training rooms that are used six days a week for doggie daycare and training classes. The Agility room is 6,000 square feet. The puppy and obedience training rooms are 3,000 square feet each. Doggy daycare uses one of the 3,000 square foot rooms and has large outdoor play areas!

Training Classes
Through class work we strive to help our students develop leadership skills necessary for teaching desired behaviors. Our group class format gives us the opportunity to explain and demonstrate skills to the group and then assist individuals as needed in teaching the skills to their dogs. We encourage all family members to attend class so that we have the opportunity to observe and improve each family member’s interactions with their dog.

Training Principles
We teach good canine behavior using “Positive Reinforcement.” The focus is on letting the dog know when they are right rather than concentrating on mistakes. The instant the desired behavior occurs, the action is reinforced with positive feedback. We use four basic types of positive reinforcement in training:
Verbal praise – Lets your dog know they’ve done a good job – “good dog!”
Physical praise – Physical contact, such as petting, stroking, scratching, etc.
Food – Rewarding them with a treat.
Toys – Engaging in a fun game by interacting with them with a toy.

Positive reinforcement is employed at every level of our training classes. It is used to train everything from every day good manners to agility, obedience, flyball and conformation.
